Phil - we did have the light fitted by a local tradesman, as I say the wiring itself has never been checked by anyone else since to see if there's some issue with it. Yes it has a 300 or 500w capacity - I will check the instructions and post as much info from that as I can. I had the instruction booklet with me yesterday but have left it at home so as to make/model, I can say it's a Homebase one but from a look at their website I can't see the exact model. I'd really like to get a couple of ideas (in as simple terms as possible please!) for a couple of things to look at, on the light itself or on the wiring side before calling in someone.Īny help on this would be really appreciated.ĭA - yes it has always done this, the lamp has various settings for the level of light it switches on at etc and so we thought maybe we just needed to make adjustments to this but have not managed to fathom it (although I must say that we did kind of give up and as I said haven't been using it as an automatic light at all). The PIR outside light itself works, as in when you walk in front of it it comes on and then dims down once movement stops, but the problem is that it never fully goes off, it just stays on in dimmer form.Īfter reading a different thread on here I switched it on last night and covered the sensor with a thick towel and the light stayed on.ĭue to this problem we basically only switch the light on at the inside switch when we go in the garden at night etc, i.e., it is not on constantly and working on movement (which is of course defeating the object of having it!). The light is wired into a double switch inside the kitchen, the other switch operates an internal ceiling light. Apologies for my totally non-tech speak on the subject when I try to explain this. Before possibly getting a new one I would like to try to establish whether this might be a wiring problem.
